Discovering a Hidden Place in Transylvania
As a child, I always felt very close to nature and it never crossed my mind that climbing hay bales and running around with farm animals wasn’t the way of life for every child out there. In my first blog post I would like to invite you to discover with me a place very dear to my heart: a beautiful, hidden corner of Transylvania, the area of Csík in the Eastern Carpathians.
I was born and raised in this relatively remote part of the world, in a tiny village called Tusnad, nestled in between the Carpathian Mountains. It was truly a pristine existence: we ate the bread my grandma baked, drank the milk she got from our cows, my mom knitted sweaters from the wool of the lambs we helped raise. It all seemed very normal to me at the time. Travelling around the world made me so grateful for this experience. I feel that this way of upbringing made me better appreciate nature, the cultural heritage I bring with myself and makes me be conscious about how I live in the world.
Ever since I was little, I dreamt of travelling. I would look at the hills and mountains undulating endlessly outside my window and I would just imagine discovering some magical faraway land, if only I could get over the last mountain I could see. And to some degree these very mountains were the ones that got me going in the first place. Now they are the ones that bring me back whenever I need rest, peace of mind and to be reminded of my roots.
Endless Sights to Discover
Many beautifully preserved castles, nature reserves, olden cities and cultural traditions. Yet the thing that captivates me the most is still the simple way of living that I experienced here as a child. I try to capture the essence of simplicity and wonder in everything I see and it all started here, with the seemingly endless fields of wheat by the feet of the mountains, the little undulating village roads and the smoke that rises up from the chimneys as soon as the first snow dew drops.
I hope you enjoyed coming along this journey to discover a place so close to my heart and will take pleasure in the simplicity that these pictures emanate. I do honestly hope that one day you will take the time and visit this beautiful part of Transylvania. I would definitely love to hear about it when you do. And if you have already done so, please share your experience and pictures in the comments.
